The Hallowed (reception) Halls
Posted on Jun 28, 2010
Delivering wedding cakes gives me the chance to see a great many of the reception venues available to couples all over the northeast Ohio and western Pennsylvania communities. It is remarkable what can be done with a simple room, a vision, and some hard work. I find it easy to tell the difference between a “reception hall” and a “Reception Hall,” with the capital letters providing emphasis on how formal and beautiful those halls are! Of course, if you start with a fabulously beautiful room (such as The Corinthian, in downtown Sharon, PA), you’re already part of the way there. But most of these venues start with a simple rectangle, and still, there is always a need for the ability to make the room into a Hall, and then to transform it for each event into the atmosphere that the client envisioned.
It struck me this weekend that there is a parallel to be drawn between what the reception hall staff do and what the ladies of The Cake Boutique are able to accomplish. Each starts with a blank sheet of paper (of sorts)—the vision in the mind of the designer, the basic parts, some decorative elements, and the desire to give that extra bit to make a thing of beauty. Each makes their own contribution to the most special day in the lives of two people now joining together as one. And in the case of a catered hall, each creates memories which appeal to more than one of the five senses. For not only is the visual impact of a hall or a wedding cake important, but often the flavors and tastes become part of the lasting memory of that day. That is why the cakes from The Cake Boutique are among the best tasting that you can find anywhere, and why the best of the best reception venues concentrate as much on the quality of their food as on the quality of their atmosphere (I’ve not had the chance to taste the food at a lot of these locations, but The Hippodrome is one that comes immediately to mind for top quality food!). Many of our customers get sold on The Cake Boutique as soon as they have the opportunity to taste the cakes, and they get the perfect combination: the beautiful creation is the first thing their guests notice, but the striking flavor—voted “The Tastiest Cake” in our most recent competition, you may recall—is what stays with them!
So as you make your plans for the next big event in your life, make sure you schedule (well in advance) one of the Boutique’s reasonably priced sample cake tastings, and request the same from your reception hall—the taste is just as important as the view!
